MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – A special “I’m Vermont Strong” license plate that was issued to help raise money for recovery from Tropical Storm Irene in 2011 will return after the state’s historic flooding, Gov. Phil Scott said on Friday.

The albums were first released in 2012 and sold for many years. When Gov. Pete Shumlin expanded their availability in 2016, saying that the plates were meant to show the strength and durability of the government.

“We’re going to bring them back with a new design,” Scott said at a news conference. “And that will raise money for flood relief and recovery efforts.”

Various fundraising efforts are underway to help get homeowners and businesses back on their feet. On Friday, Scott announced a $20 million government support program for businesses that suffered physical damage from the floods.

Hundreds of businesses have filed damage reports from last week’s floods, which left two months’ worth of rain in just a few days.

Vermont was under a flash flood watch until Friday evening as another storm developed. Up to 3 inches of rain could fall in some areas, according to the forecast.

Swiftwater rescue teams have been set up across the country.
