WASHINGTON (AP) – A Florida couple pleaded guilty Monday to participating in the bombing of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Jamie Buteau, 50, and Jennifer Buteau, 46, both of Ocala, entered guilty pleas in District of Columbia federal court, according to court records. Jamie Buteau pleaded guilty to assault, resisting or obstructing certain officers. Jennifer Buteau pleaded guilty to a felony charge of performing, displaying or impersonating in the Capitol building. They will be sentenced on October 20.

According to court documents, the Buteaus joined others in opposing Joe Biden’s 2020 victory over former President Donald Trump. A mob stormed the Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying Biden’s election results over Trump, authorities said, and five people died in the violence.

According to the criminal complaint, the Buteaus entered the US Capitol building through a broken door and walked with a large crowd into the lobby, where the Capitol Police were interrupted. At one point, Jamie Buteau took a chair and threw it at the officials. The chair bounced off the wall and hit one officer in the arm, causing a complaint.

More than 1,000 people have been arrested in nearly all 50 states on criminal charges related to the Capitol breach, according to officials. More than 350 people have been charged with assault or obstructing law enforcement.
